Health and wellbeing strategy

In 2012, Swindon's Health and Wellbeing Board commissioned a steering group with representation from the Swindon LINk, the Clinical Commissioning Group, Swindon Borough Council, NHS Swindon and Public Health to develop Swindon's first Health and Wellbeing Strategy (PDF). This strategy sets out the vision and the long term improvements in local people’s health and wellbeing that we want to achieve in Swindon. It also sets out our priorities for action and indicators that will help us measure progress.

The purpose of this strategy is to:

  • Set out the vision of what we want to achieve for health and wellbeing in Swindon
  • Identify the key priorities for improving health and wellbeing
  • Drive and influence the delivery of health care
  • Provide an integrated framework that aligns with other local strategies
  • Improve health and wellbeing for everyone and reduce health inequalities
  • Maximise the opportunities local assets afford us
  • Engage with local partners and communities to ensure local needs are being met

The Health and Wellbeing Strategy will be monitored and reviewed by the Swindon Health and Wellbeing Board every six months and revised annually informed by and reflecting the latest Joint Strategic Needs Assessment findings.

GP Earnings

All GP practices are required to declare the mean net earnings (eg. Average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice. This is required in the interests of the greater public accountability recognising GP pay is ultimately funded from tax paid by the public.

The average pay for GPs working at Ridgeway View Family Practice in the last financial year was £58,248 before tax and national insurance. This is for 10 part time GP’s and 1 locum GP (who worked in the practice for more than six months.)

The certificate below is to certify we have been registered with the Care Quality Commission under the Health and Social Care Act 2008.

Notice to all patients - Named GP

  1. All registered patients have been allocated a named GP.

  1. Patients can contact us to find out who their named GP is or to request a specific GP.

We are a designated training practice allowed to teach both medical students and fully qualified doctors who are gaining experience in general practice. Sometimes they will sit in with your doctor. You will be informed of this when it happens but if you wish to see the doctor alone please tell the receptionist and this will be arranged.

As part of the training occasionally the consultation will be videotaped. This will occur only with the patient’s consent and intimate physical examinations will not be recorded. The camera will always be switched off on request, and the recording will be deleted if you ask.

Our trainers are Dr Stephen Sewell and Dr Shirin Fozdar

Dear Patient

We are pleased to announce that we are updating the way you order your repeat prescriptions and allowing access to make your own routine GP appointments and to cancel appointments. Please visit our website for the latest details.  You can also download the SystmOnline App free from the App Store for iPad and iPhone Users.

Our system will now allow patients to order their own repeat medication directly which makes it even easier to use as the drug/dose/quantity is listed automatically – you just select which items you need.  You can also add a note or comment regarding medication that is not on your repeat prescriptions, if necessary.

Firstly, you will need to come into the surgery to get a User Name and Password set up to enable you to log into the system. Please ask to see an Online Admin Agent at either of our branches.

Because you are accessing your medical records for security purposes you will need to provide photo ID in the form of either a Passport or Driving Licence Photocard or any other card that has photo and identity details - as well as a Utility Bill or Bank Statement dated within the last 3 months to confirm residency.

You will be given a User Name and Password and a guide to using SystmOnline to get you started.

Each patient needs a separate User Name and Password set up and would have to collect their own details individually.  Please note that parents are able to use this service to place orders for children up to the age of 12 years.

The online service will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year (other than for essential maintenance if necessary).

The SystmOnline service has been fully tested and accredited.  As such it is fully secure.

Prescription requests received before 1pm will be available for collection in 2 working days after 3.30pm. Requests received after 1pm will not be placed until the following day and then allow 2 working days after 3.30pm.

We hope you will take this opportunity to help us improve the service we provide to you now and in the future.  If you wish to place repeat orders using the old system you can continue to do so.

New contractual requirements came into force from 1st April 2015 requiring that GP practices should make available a statement of intent in relation to the following IT developments:-

  1. Referral Management
  2. Electronic Appointment Booking
  3. On line Booking of repeat prescriptions
  4. Summary Care Record
  5. GP2GP transfers
  6. Patient Access to records.

Please find below details of the practice stance with regards to these developments:-

  • Referral Management

All practices must include the NHS Number as the primary identifier in all NHS clinical correspondence issued by the practice.

Ridgeway View Family Practice Surgery include the NHS Number on all correspondence

  • Electronic appointment booking

Practices are required to promote and offer the facility for all patients, who wish to, to book, view, amend, cancel and print appointments online.

Ridgeway View Family Practice Surgery currently offer the facility for booking and cancelling appointments online.

  • Online booking of repeat prescriptions

Practices are required to promote and offer the facility for all patients, who wish to, to order online, view and print a list of their repeat prescriptions for necessary drugs, medicines or appliances.

Ridgeway View Family Practice Surgery currently offer the facility for ordering repeat prescriptions on-line.

  • Interoperable records/Summary Care Record.

Practices are required to enable successful automated uploads of any changes to a patient’s summary information, at least on a daily basis to the Summary Care record. Having your Summary Care Record available will help anyone treating you without your full medical record. They will have access to information about any medication you may be taking and any drugs that you have a recorded allergy or sensitivity to.

Ridgeway View Family Practice Surgery is already live with SCR. However, if you do not want your medical records to be available in this way then you will need to let us know so that we can update your record. You can do this via the ‘opt out form’ from Reception.

  • GP2GP record transfers

There is a contractual requirement to utilise the GP2GP facility for the transfer of patient records between practices, when a patient registers or de-registers. It is very important that you are registered with a doctor at all times. If you leave your GP and register with a new GP, your medical records will be removed from your previous doctor and forwarded on to your new GP via NHS England. It can take several weeks for your paper records to reach your new surgery. With GP to GP record transfers, your electronic

record is transferred to your new practice much sooner.

Ridgeway View Family Practice Surgery can confirm that GP2GP transfers are already active and we send and receive patient records via this system.

  • Patient access to their GP record

Practices are required by 31st March 2016 to promote and offer the facility for patients to view online, export or print the detailed information from their medical record. I.e. information held in coded form.

We are working with our clinical system supplier to achieve this functionality and it is our intention to have this facility available to patients by 31st March 2016
